Mutts, Moms & Market Season: May with Buff Cake Barkery!

May gives dog people plenty of reasons to celebrate, from National Rescue Dog Day to the anniversaries that matter only to your own family. Around Buff Cake Barkery, one of those dates is May 13, Zane's Gotcha Day.

A Gotcha Day does not need to be elaborate. It is simply another excuse to celebrate the day your dog became part of your family.

What is a dog's Gotcha Day?

Gotcha Day is a name many families use for the anniversary of the day they adopted or brought their dog home. For rescue dogs especially, the exact birthday may not be known, so the adoption anniversary can become the date the family chooses to celebrate each year.

For us, May 13 is Zane's day. We adopted him in 2018, and his Gotcha Day has been part of the Buff Cake calendar ever since.

How can you celebrate a dog's Gotcha Day?

You do not need to throw a full birthday party unless that is your thing. A favorite walk, a new toy, extra time together or a special dog treat can make the day feel different from an ordinary Tuesday.

If you like having something made for the occasion, decorated dog cookies are an easy celebration option. Our designs rotate, but our permanent Decorated Dog Cookies and Gotcha Day Treats collection is where you can see the cookies currently available.

Gotcha Day treats instead of a traditional cake

Not every dog celebration needs a cake. A decorated bone, a small cookie set or your dog's favorite everyday treat can be easier to portion and still give you that special celebration moment.

That is one reason Brookie's Cookie Collection includes birthday, Gotcha Day, funny saying and seasonal dog cookies throughout the year. The individual designs may come and go, while the collection stays in one place.

Celebrating rescue dogs in May

May also includes National Rescue Dog Day, which makes it a fitting month to celebrate the dogs who found their way into our families through shelters and rescues.

For Buff Cake, that connection is personal. Zane has been part of our family since 2018 and part of the story behind the Barkery from the beginning.

Make the celebration fit your dog

Some dogs would happily attend a party. Others would vote for a quiet walk and a snack with their favorite person. There is no required Gotcha Day itinerary.

Celebrate the dog you actually have. If treats are part of the plan, choose something appropriate for your dog's size and dietary needs. If you want something made for the occasion, browse our current decorated dog cookies and Gotcha Day treats.
