Growing Smarter: What’s Changing at Buff Cake Barkery
It’s been a hot minute since our last blog post, and if you’ve been following along, you may have noticed a few quiet changes behind the scenes. Some intentional. Some necessary. All part of running a real small business.
We wanted to take a moment to check in, be transparent, and share a little of what’s been happening as we head into market season.
The start of each year can be one of the toughest stretches for many small businesses, and this year was no exception. The final months of the previous year often bring added business expenses, and the first few months of the new year can feel like a game of catch up. This season also came with some unexpected maintenance and repairs that needed attention, which meant shifting resources in ways we had not originally planned.
That said, we are still moving forward. In fact, sales are ahead of where they were this time last year. But numbers on paper do not always tell the full story. Growth is rarely a straight line, and sometimes progress looks less like fireworks and more like thoughtful decisions made behind closed doors.
That brings us to some of the changes you’ll be seeing from Buff Cake Barkery.
One of the biggest areas we’ve been reevaluating is our seasonal cookie collections. As much as we’d love to say every launch is a huge success every single time, that just isn’t reality. Some collections shine online. Some do better in stores. Some take far more time and energy to create than they return. And while creativity is one of our favorite parts of this business, it also comes with planning, baking, photographing, uploading, writing descriptions, marketing, packaging, and fulfillment.
After a lot of reflection, we’ve made some decisions about which seasonal releases make the cut for 2026. That does not mean less heart. It means more intention. We’re focusing our energy where it creates the best experience for both our customers and the business.
We’re also making changes to our ambassador program. Truthfully, it’s evolving into something different. We’re taking what we’ve learned, letting go of what no longer fits, and building something that feels more aligned with where Buff Cake Barkery is headed now. More details will come when the time is right.
Custom orders are another area getting a refresh. We know custom ordering can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to match a vision with a budget. To make things easier, we’re working on a more simplified system with clearer tiered options so customers can choose what works best for them more easily.
We also want to gently remind everyone that custom work requires lead time for a reason. Between existing orders, store production, events, and everyday operations, each custom set deserves the time and attention it takes to do it well. We’d rather be honest about timing than rush something that matters.
You may have also noticed that our store list is no longer on the website. That change was intentional. As locations shift, inventory changes, and new opportunities develop, we’ve found it’s more helpful to share current availability directly. If you’re ever wondering where to find Buff Cake treats, just send us a message or email us. We’re always happy to help point you in the right direction.
At the heart of all of this is one simple goal: to grow smarter, not just bigger.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us through every season, every new idea, every pivot, and every package of treats. Your support allows us to keep learning, improving, and building something we truly believe in.
And now, with market season around the corner, we’re looking ahead with fresh energy and a lot of hope.
Thanks for being here with us. 🐾
